I have purchased a number of different food gift baskets over the years online and its always a little difficult to determine which one to get. You have to carefully read the content descriptions as some baskets have a lot of "filler" items. This makes it appear that you are getting a lot of food but its crackers and condiments. I bought this as a gift for friends and actually got to help them eat it. Loved the smoked salmon. Included cheese crackers and mustard; enough for a meal for three of four even though we ate it as an appetizer. Fun but dumb...

These nostalgia gift baskets that have shown up in the last few years are sort of fun but kind of lame. The food part of them has all the right gadgets and lookalikes inside but what ruins it is that the packaging people who do this have to follow 21st century labeling standards of specifc ingredients including barcodes. Nutrition facts and all those stupid warning things that make it seem like your Clark bar just got pumped out of a modern day Nestles plant. Kind of a downer. Too bad. Great idea if you didn't have to modernize it to make sure that your legal butt is covered. The real gift gadget would be for the items to appear EXACTLY as they were originally without all those damn warnings and cautions to protect us. Disappointing

I gave it only two stars because I was disappointed in the amount of chocolate included in this basket. The packaging and presentation were very nice but the contents left my wife looking for more. The candy was fresh and tasted good but the portions were very small. The box and packaging weigh five pounds but I would estimate there were only about 14 ounces or less of candy. For $39.99 plus $9.99 shipping you could do much better shopping at your local HEB or Rite Aid. Next time I will buy her a two pound Whitman's Sampler as they know how to pack a box with chocolates.More detail ...

I got this as a gift to my son's teacher. The assistant teacher got the Numi's flowering tea set. I figured it's better to give something food related than the old spa gift soaps and lotions than one may never use or even worse the impersonal gift cards (did that last year).

major disappointment

Looking at my 80's box I am very disappointed with it. I cannot believe that there is a 1 liter bottle of soda in this small box it takes up a third of all the space! This is a flat out rip-off that was space that could have had candy! Not to mention that it isn't even a brand that we'd ever heard of so it does us zero for nostalgia. Furthermore there are more suckers in the box than anything else! I feel like this box which should have been very easy was completely thrown together without much thought and is complete garbage especially as most of the candy is still available in stores.



I had to spend more money just to fill in that empty third of the box when I threw the soda away!More detail ...

A Huge Disappointment

I received this gift basket as a birthday present and was excited upon initially opening the box. From there it went downhill. The actual bag is about 2/3 stuffing with only the very top being product and you get very little product for the price. Notables in it were "truffle cookies" that tasted like a stale vanilla cracker cookie (I'm guessing this was a substitute for the listed Balloon sugar cookies) a chocolate chip "tea cake" mini loaf that's hard to stomach more than a couple bites at a time (very bland and unappetizing) a small box of chocolate fudge that's the worst I've ever had (you probably made better fudge in home ec) a box marked "Gourmet Caramel Nut Assortment" that's actually just caramel pieces (equally disappointing).



The only safe things in the package were some small (emphasis: small) packages of Jelly Bellies fruit slice candies and some generic hard strawberry candies. The boxes the individual products come in are deceivingly big but trust me there's a lot of air in each of those boxes.



For something by a company named "The Art of Appreciation" you can show your appreciation in much cheaper ways that doesn't leave the party on the receiving end wondering if they knew what in the world you were thinking. I wouldn't even pay $10 for this utter disappointment. Show someone you care by staying clear of this little number!



(Update: I find it very interesting that within 24 hours of my posting the first review for this since it was released in 2004 a beaming almost storybook 5-star review comes up out of nowhere (Also note that this was that reviewer's first review ever--red flags galore). p.s. There was no "pretty bow" in this package or if there was it was instantly forgetable. Obviously a lame attempt by the company to boost their rating.
